Follow these simple steps to lead a more peaceful, optimistic life.
If you follow me on Facebook and Twitter (and you should; I offer a lot of great content and specials exclusively for my followers), you may have noticed that my overall theme for this week is relaxation. You don’t need me to convince you that it’s better to lead a more relaxed life―I’m sure that given the choice, many of you would embrace a life with less stress, anxiety and pressure. However, while you may recognize that it’s beneficial to lead a life of relaxation, very few people understand what it takes to achieve it.
When talking about relaxation, I try to help people understand that becoming a more relaxed individual goes hand-in-hand with becoming more positive. If you’re constantly putting yourself down or telling yourself that you can’t do something, you’re always going to have stress and worry in your life.
With that in mind, here are three simple things that you can do in your day-to-day life that will not only help you to become a more positive and joyful person, but will also help you lead a more relaxed life:
1. Change Your Perspective
While there are many things in life that cause us stress―bills, relationships, jobs, etc.―the biggest reason for stress comes not from the stressors themselves, but from the way you react to them. The next time you are presented with a negative situation, instead of letting yourself get worked up about it, take a deep breath and think of a positive response. For instance, if you find out that one of your co-workers just got the promotion you were hoping to get, instead of doubting yourself, think about all of your impressive qualifications and how you could apply them to a better, more advanced position.
2. Affirm Your Positive Thoughts
Positive affirmations are another great way to help train your mind to stay away from negative thoughts. The idea behind these affirmations is that you take a personal idea or goal and make it into a positive statement. You then repeat this statement to yourself daily until your way of thinking is actually altered. They key to positive affirmation is that you phrase the statement as if it is already true. For example, instead of saying, “I want to lead a more relaxed life,” you would say, “I lead a relaxed life.” This will help program your subconscious to believe the statement and, eventually, make it a reality.
3. Offer Your Mind A Chance To Relax
One of the reasons that meditation has been around for so long is because it is proven to be one of the best ways to relax your mind and heighten your self-awareness. When you meditate, your mind goes into a state of total relaxation, allowing your mind to clear itself of all of the frantic thoughts and stressors that build up throughout the day. Once you have detached yourself from the situations that cause you stress, you are able to look at them from a clear mind which will help you make better decisions in the long run.
